They came across the sea - the only thing they brought was misery.
Again they came under the cross - but they did not come in the name of god.
In 43 they found their end, they found their end in a destroyed land.
They all died in a cruel war in the desert.
German men died for the power of a madman.
The others died to defeat this madman.
Two years later he died in Berlin.
The madman tried to conquer north Africa and the world. Just like today, it´s been a war for oil - not for progress and wealth. Germans brought tanks, brought soldiers and guns to a civilized
land. It´s been a war of attrition, no one was spared, no civilians, no soldiers, no children, not a mother. Modern warfare makes no difference between soldiers and civilians. The height of this
war was El Alamein, the battle there, it was pure pain. 20.000 German soldiers were killed, the Allies lost 14.000. All that in the name of the so called Desert-Fox. The Fight was in
vain.
Refrain:
El Alamein, just a small desert town
El Alamein, so many were killed
El Alamein, no dream was fulfilled
so many were killed at El Alamein
Two weeks of raging war, two weeks of death and violence. So many were killed, killed by mines, bullets or were torn apart by other means. Most of them were very young men and all of them hoped
to come back home - British soldiers, German men, South African boys and New Zealand guys... What was left of the dead soldiers rots in the hot and dry graves in the desert sands. No name can be
seen, no tombstone of the brave can be found in a foreign land. All these soldiers - they fought for their country, fought for their lifes, they just did what they were told. They were no
murderers, they just had to fight. They lost their hope, they lost their lifes, they were deceived by politicians.
Refrain
They all died in a cruel war in the desert.
German men died for the power of a madman.
The others died to defeat this madman.
Two years later he died in Berlin.
Many years ago in ancient times, life was not so different from today.
Once again young soldiers die, far away in the desert sand.
Die for the wealth of a few, for the power of a few governments...
